| The concept The bumper tamper was an idea that had been rattling around my head for many years, but only became a reality in 2005. I was pretty fed-up of using unsightly dented and damaged tampers. Tampers that were great at the beginning but soon looked awful. I knew that people like the Marzocco rubber handled portafilters and so put the two ideas together. The tamper offers the following:
The tampers have been designed from scratch so that they are highly durable. The handle itself is actually a handle within a handle, underneath the rubber skin is an aluminium tamper. Without this, the handle would have no weight and the tamper would not be balanced. We are now pleased to offer 3 styles of handle: the original "Classic", the "V" and the "Ball" Above photos L to R. | Base types All bases are in stainless steel - please note we have discontinued the aluminium bases. The bases are available in:
To get the correct size, you need to measure the inside diameter of your basket - if you are unsure we can advise you on a recommendation depending upon your brand of machine/basket. Flat or convex? Well there is no right or wrong answer to this question, it really depends upon personal preference. I like a convex tamper as it allows me to get a nice level tamp. Other people can't use anything but a flat tamper. |
| Quality and additional info. In terms of the quality of the final product, I feel that our tampers are as good as anything out there on the market. The materials we use are of the highest quality and ALL bases are completed by us in-house and finished to the highest standards. The logo is laser etched into the steel so that it will not rub off. The set screw that holds the base and the handle together is made of stainless steel. We prefer a brushed finish to the metal as this not only looks the best but provides a more durable finish compared with mirror polished bases. Adding the brushed finish is more difficult than having a polished surface but we think it is worth the effort. Each tamper set consist of:
